Best Time to Visit Bhutan
Bhutan is a year-round destination, but choosing the right time can elevate your experience significantly. Each season has its own unique appeal.
Spring (March to May) — Best Overall
Spring is widely considered the best time to visit Bhutan. The weather is pleasant, flowers are in full bloom (especially rhododendrons), and the famous Paro Tsechu festival usually falls in March-April. The views of the Himalayas are crystal clear.
Autumn (September to November) — Second Best
Autumn offers cool, clear weather with excellent mountain views. The Thimphu Tsechu festival in September-October is a spectacular cultural event. This is also a great time for trekking.
Winter (December to February) — Cold but Unique
Winter is cold in Bhutan, especially at higher altitudes, but it offers a magical experience. The valleys are quieter, prices are lower, and you may witness rare black-necked cranes at Phobjikha Valley.
Monsoon (June to August) — Not Recommended
The monsoon season brings heavy rainfall and leeches on the trails, making trekking difficult. However, if you don't mind the rain, this is the greenest and most lush time to visit.
